Day 22 (of 2024/25) Upcoming school rules?

Day 22 (of 2024/25) Upcoming school rules?

As we think about safety in and around schools, perhaps we ought to consider some of these international school rules in our local context:

Helmets. All the time. I know, but I remember the grumbles on ski mountains and skating rinks that have shifted to acceptance (and some cool personalization). As we become more aware of the horribleness of concussions (any head injury is a ‘call home to let families know’ … unlike cuts bruises and glued fingers)

Banning hard balls (⚽️ 🏈  ⚾️ 🎾) again because of head injuries. And by “international” this is in Ontario…

And hair… can’t believe this remains a topic that people care about. I wish I had hair so I could better support the rebels who have amazing hair (best I had was being an early adopter of when lines cut in the side of the head was a thing) and it’s not like Canada hasn’t had horrible rules about hair (residential school rule 1 – maybe 1B)

Think it’s silly? Well black clothes are currently being banned because of their connection to poor mental health. Phones are banned because they’re a distraction while other more traditional distraction tools hide in plain sight to help the multi-generation long streak of kids being bored in class not pay attention to the lesson(s).

Rules come from interesting places – especially around safety and dress code. I hold to not having shirts promoting drugs alcohol and hate. What are some rules you believe strongly in or can’t believe have to be enforced?

Cuz you never know when something banned might’ve once been more acceptable than you thought – like backwards hats… httpsi://youtube.com/shorts/Cfsf-5shP_I?si=OvqgLdms3vJSMx1a
