Day 37 (of 2024/25) Pro-D at @cuebc with keynote by @courosa
First: what a list re generative AI!! https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1bdu1PpjsO7odq5Tu8n-Hj4W9aAiBw57fhcJvoKqMCbU/mobilebasic?pli=1

Then James Gill and I presented and shared how TaskMaster can be a valuable learning approach (introduces a focus on the competencies and design thinking and timelines)
Understanding and Navigating Truth: The Role of Information Literacy in the Age of Generative AI (Dr. Alec Couros)
“Our most fundamental technological affordance is your own attention” Intention leads to attention – Howard Rheingold

“To be fully present on the internet at any given moment is embarrassing” – maybe I should read a bit more about what I’m writing about… ooh there’s a video on meerkats… and they’re being traded… maybe I should get involved…
“Heavy media multitaskers are more susceptible to interference from irrelevant environmental stimuli”
There’s a lot of tools available… maybe too many…
The problem of trust – discuss.
Hypothesis =- collaborate with anyone, anywhere
The next big thing: Wave (posters on how phones can be charged) from iOS8
The filter bubble (near you mattering more than something bigger elsewhere; or vice versa) what does the algorithm share you: what you want to hear vs need to hear:

My political bubble – looks at your ‘friends’ and where you compare to them…
A lie can travel around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes…
- you are most likely to ‘research’ looking for articles/titles that your preconceived hunch wants to follow…

Now: we don’t have to stew about ‘unknowns’ – eg do bananas grow tip up or down? How old is David Lee Roth…? The space between knowing and not knowing is smaller than ever. I wonder how the marshmallow test for delayed gratification would be received (without judging it’s earlier errors in not considering trust and other socioeconomic factors)
Alec also shared how his identity was used in 2007 in online romance scams… so he knows the false identity/catfishing world a bit too well.
Netflix watch: Sweet Bobby
Making me connect with a recent storyline on Howard Stern about fake Liam Neeson’s catfishing many women – and many LN accounts… and many of the victims are aware of the many fake LN’s but believe/hope their’s is the legitimate one…
Adobo Voca “Photoshop-for-voice” causing concerns…
AI anchors in China
Video adaptions (in real time) to help Bill Hader’s accents make his face better resemble Al Pacino…
How to read/research critically – it’s getting harder. Trust matters.
Four Moves and a Habit:
- look for previous work
- Go upstream (to the source)
- Read laterally
- Circle back
- Check your emotions
Are you too connected/wishing to be mindful of AI edited content (Hillary Clinton shirt ) What questions can/should you ponder?
Read laterally – knowing right/left leaning press; truth vs opinion vs fiction vs ideology vs ???
“When you feel strong emotion – happiness, anger, pride vindication – and that emotion pushes you to share a “fact” with others, STOP. Above all, it’s these things you must fact check.”
Hemingway: Every man should have a built-in automatic craft detector operating inside him.
How do ‘we’ model not trusting… not even us: Zen Moments: My favourite liar
Expect some falsity in today’s lectures… (find a lie in each lecture) but… (very taskmastery)

From iPhoto AI copy and pasted from the above photo:
Al and Infolit
• Al has the ablaty to generate abundant, customizable content, and its exprossed blases make it an excellent resource for toaching information Horacy.
• Students and teachers must become hyper-awaro ol Al’s capabilitios in ordor to be ablo to detect traudulent, inaccurate, or I-intentioned content
• Human psychology continues to be an Achias heel for Sirintomation, blas, and inaccurate content.
• Emerging approaches to generate compeling mutimedia content wil soon be undetectable and indistinguishable trom factual content.
• Intermation Morecy skille and the nurturing of a skeptic’ mindsel are essential for human prosparity and survival.
But again – it’s sometimes the sidebar conversations at lunch and in hallways that is just as, if not more valuable for learning. Got some great direction on esports, film club, online course development and more that are in other notes… not ready to share… yet…
