Day 44 (of 2024/25) wow – can’t even pretend the US Presidential Election isn’t distracting… can’t ban every distraction

It’s been hovering for over 2 years. Way too long – Canadian election rules make the calling and running of a campaign much more … limited in scope. I used to think that the 4 year cycle of predictability of the US system made a lot more sense than the constitutional monarchy’s “when the government (or Governor General) calls for one” – but the problem that has emerged with predictability is that the campaigning goes on … and on… and on…

Though this year, when visiting US family (and discussing options if Project 2025 becomes the law of the land) was that there were far fewer campaign signs than any other year. We used to joke how every time we would go visit, there were signs up for some election or other… an ongoing flow of voting options. But this year – the antagonism seems to have reached a boiling point (from what we saw on the Pacific Northwest) with people not publicizing their vote because of neighbour reactions being so pointed around… ‘him’.

The worry this campaign does include womens health rights and the future of ‘state rights’ – which has led to more than a few conversations with me not being able to comprehend how people I was talking to could rationalize different rights for different people in different states – and to be specific in first context, rights for women – with the connected rights for gender and race not wanting to be talked about… even though they are strongly connected when Roe v Wade was struck down.

I know there are many who are downplaying the politics of the past years, but it’s going to be interesting to see how the next few hours and days influence international economies, military decisions, political parties, and so much more. With family and friends in the US… it’s been a distracting day… and going to be a distracting evening and night…. and possibly longer – I read that ‘stolen election theories’ were being pushed before polls even closed.

Looking forward to reading the historical review of this time period sometime in the future. If you stumbled upon this blog sometime after 2030… yes… it has been a turbulent time – not limited to the USA itself.

And an unexpected early result. Now we get to see if project 2025 was hyperbole or prophecy… at least from the outside looking in… a time I hope I’m wrong in what has been shared during the 2 year campaign

US is more conservative than it has been in decades… gonna be interesting…
