Day 52 (of 2024/25) eulogies are hard for educators #movember sadness over loss of a friend
This month I am promoting (mens) health – both physical and mental, but was rocked this weekend learning that a friend and colleague unexpectedly passed away… someone who took very good care of their physical and mental health and took on many challenges with strength and dignity and always inspired me to do a bit different… better? for myself and with others. Considering how we dress.. both what we wear, and what we cover up (if someone has tattoos, does that change your impression of them? In education – tattoos and piercings have always led to ‘conversations between parents and principals’ because they tend to bring up ‘some concerns’ about what led to someone seeking those physical ‘augmentations’ to their body – usually in a negative form… and a friend who had to overcome some of those ‘concerns’ sadly left us way too soon.
Great family man. Great educator. Wish I had more chances to talk and work with him. But someone who would always have time if I had a question – and always more then helpful if there was something he could help with. But another reminder that we can’t take certain things for assumption – and during #movember, a reminder that even when someone takes great care of themselves sometimes life still sucks.
Because losing LC is another reminder that too often great educators too often go too soon… there aren’t any right words to share with his family. I’m gutted.
Todays reminder is simple – if there are people you are thinking of that you maybe haven’t spoken to for awhile.. find some time this month to send a text; make a call; create an email. I owe some people some connection time – but I am also aware that it’ll take me a bit more time to be able to reach out… do as I say, not as I do (yet).
