Day 97 (of 2024/25) snow ❄️ day
The timing of the announcement of a snow day was later than I expected… there was a good amount of snow on the ground and others in our region had taken the ‘better safe than sorry’ call to close their district
We are in a unique environment. We don’t get a lot of snow. So we are not really prepared for it. If anything an over reliance on salt/sand and less on ‘appropriate footwear’ – but I am mindful of what the mayor of Seattle said a few years back when the city was shut for the day with a big snowfall. We know the rain will take care of it soon (which is why I don’t bother shovelling my driveway). And it is easier/cheaper safer to say ‘stay home for a day’ than to build the infrastructure to keep things moving.
The pandemic also gave us lessons, so I also tease… instead of a snow day, it can be a practice of ‘remote learning opportunities’! Though at a provincial online learning school… much of what we do just goes on irregardless of weather…
Should snow be a reason for a day ‘off’ or should we be practicing online learning more often?
