Day -3 (of 2025/26) dress codes – I get it, but…
“If moms can’t pay the barbershop, if their homes don’t have (running) water, (or) electricity to iron, if they haven’t given them shoes, put yourself in that position Minister (Trigueros), and dress like a civilian,” Magaña wrote on X.

I appreciate the worry of ‘gang insignias’ and clothes being in schools… but way too often, I see it go overboard – particularly focused on on girls SOGI and bipoc communities… from hair to clothes… debating if school uniforms are the right way to go (many reasons in favor of this) or why they are the wrong direction (many reasons show uniforms are not the right choice).
Last year I showed some solidarity against some questionable dress codes rules.. https://technolandy.com/2024/09/16/day-10-of-2024-25-dress-codes-again-and-why-im-wearing-black-a-hoodie-and-crocs/

Here are some new violations: 🤦 More “Dumb Dress Code Violations” to add to your ensemble:
• Color bans
• Red or blue clothes → outlawed in some districts because of “gang colors.”
• Yellow shirts in one Florida school were once banned because staff thought they symbolized a rival district (!).
• Logos & graphics
• Nike swooshes and sports team logos (because they “incite rivalries”).
• Anime/cartoon T-shirts banned at one middle school because they were “too distracting.”
• Footwear
• Flip-flops or sandals → “unsafe for stairs.”
• Doc Martens banned at some UK schools because they’re “too aggressive-looking.”
• Accessories
• Rosaries banned as “gang symbols.”
• Rubber bracelets (including the “Livestrong” bands) banned because of the “WWJD / sexual innuendo” craze.
• Sunglasses indoors banned (unless doctor’s note).
• Outerwear
• Winter coats inside = banned (safety + concealment excuses).
• Blankets (some students wore them for warmth in underheated buildings — schools banned them).
• Weirder specifics
• Cheer bows in hair banned because they were “too big.”
• “Distracting” nail polish or long acrylic nails (still popping up in handbooks).
• Mismatched socks banned at a UK primary school because they were “disruptive to learning.”

In solidarity last year, I wore and wrote about all the different clothing barriers are… here’s the remix:
👔✨ Fall’s Hottest Banned Looks: Back-to-School Edition ✨👟
This season, forget Paris, Milan, or New York—
the real runway is your high school hallway.
Here’s what’s trending (and already banned):
⸻
🔴 The Gang-Color Hoodie
Because nothing says “danger” like wearing a red sweatshirt to third-period English. Pair with an indifferent shrug for maximum menace.
👟 Doc Martens vs. Flip-Flops
Combat boots? Too aggressive. Flip-flops? Too unsafe.
Solution: wear one of each. You’ll be banned in stereo.
📿 The Rosary Necklace
From sacred symbol to “gang paraphernalia,” this bold accessory goes with everything—and offends everyone. Instant office referral chic.
🎀 Cheer Bows & Anime Tees
Oversized hair bows: too distracting.
Anime shirts: too “immature.”
Combine both for a look so powerful your principal will spontaneously combust.
🧦 The Sock Rebellion
Compression socks? Questionable.
Mismatched socks? Outright anarchy.
Why stop at ankles—try knee-high neon to test policy limits.
🧣 Blanket Chic
Half comfort, half protest. Perfect for drafty classrooms.
Warning: administrators may confiscate and repurpose as staff lounge throws.
💅 Distracting Noises
Wow – AirPod noise augmentation – clarifying what is being said in a noisy chat vs noise cancellation vs white noise vs right bpm to positively distract the brain into focused state. It’s not always just listening to … did 2025 have a song of the summer??

🌟 Editorial Verdict
This year’s hottest look is simple:
If it’s banned, it’s in. Just like books…
Because nothing says “student voice” louder than violating a rule that makes zero sense.
