Day 365 (of 2025/26): #tEChursdAI looking at tomorrows @CUEBC lineup
I love our provincial pro-d (professional development) day! A time for specialist organizations to show off and have educators show up to learn and share (and chat in the hallways…probably the best pro-d). A fabulous day. But some thoughts:
- I know there are some that roll their eyes with educators being at “yet another day off” and let me confirm
A) not a day off. The brain works a lot.
B) teachers back in the day were so committed to the idea of embedding days of professional learning into the calendar that they added some extra days to entrench 180 as the targeted number of days – and going to the end of June – be mindful that when parents and community members want those days to go away… we are returning to June 15 as the targeted end of the year.
2. the CUEBC conference remains one of my top two that I know I am going to have angst about each year along with BCPVPAs Connecting Leaders conference.
3. This year’s theme is “technology with purpose” which aligns with my own presentation this year looking at “clubs, not stations” for k-12 thinking and organizing.
4. Dr Greg Sutherland is the keynote looking at Exploring generative AI through an indigenous lens
5. My session is streamed and after lunch… great with streaming as I am with a Provincial Online Learning School; after lunch always needs a bit more energy. Good thing I have some comics to give away!!
Technology has long been part of my learning journey. an amazing equalizer that has only continued to grow until now screens and AI are forcing education into its Blockbuster/Netflix moment ~ and I continue to worry that by focusing on banning the most disruptive tools to personalize learning journeys… customers may look to ‘that other thing’… looking forward to exploring my thinking further on Pro-D Friday!
