Day 44 (of 2025/26) another #movember where I will leave fundraising to others

Day 44 (of 2025/26) another #movember where I will leave fundraising to others

I am not good at getting funds – either as donations nor solicitations. It is why I prefer to focus on the messaging of good programs like Heart and Stroke Society’s Jump Rope For Heart, Terry Fox for Cancer etc – but I am mindful of the importance of messaging reminders for mens health during a no-shave November aka #movember.

One of my key Landy-isms as a reminder: please don’t make fun of things like a ‘man cold’ as those terms are why some of us don’t think about commenting about an unusual shortness of breath… or a pain… or some of the ‘not-as-seen-on-screen’ symptoms for cardiac events… I’m glad my watch was tracking my heart rate being unusual… but I understand why some men will keep their concerns to themselves…

Physical and Mental wellness are issues that don’t care about gender – but men have systemically been conditioned to not really talk about it and instead ‘rub some dirt on it’… which is fine when we are talking about minor issues – but it is easy for a change in baseline to not be observed when we don’t talk enough…

I am a big fan of the #movember society in Canada and will encourage people to please support others who are better at raising money, while I raise messages throughout the month…

That being said, I do have my annual goal if anybody is looking to make a donation – my target is $42 because it is the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything; and my dad was born in 1942 and did not make it to retirement… my cardiac events was one year later than his – and I am thankful for all the work that has gone on over the decades to make heart recovery better/possible!

And today’s Mens Themed Health Reminder: don’t tease when people share they’re not feeling well… ‘man cold jokes’ mean silence later
