Day 75 (of 2025/26) #tEChursdAI thoughts wishes for the new year (2026 wow!!)

Kind of excited to get a PLC looking at AI going within our Provincial Online Learning School. Today’s touch-in allowed some fun … shares… (rants) good balance is things that’ll make you agree and get angry!

  • AI as a collaborator?
  • AI as slop?
  • AI as a coach>
  • “Real Ideas” vs “Prompt Generated”
  • Environmental awareness (idea: model city in the north of canada where the temperature can remain cold to reduce the need for fresh water, and using geothermal energy to provide the electricity that feeds the beast… then experiment with a community that ‘needs for nothing’ à la Star Trek/The Orville….
  • Not plagiarism unless sentient?
  • Not cheating, but equalizing – much as calculators helped generations of students do better thinking about math without getting caught up in minutia, is it possible for thinkers to get deeper without having to always worry about the grammar/spelling?
  • AI and Personal Screens the greatest equalizer to the game of school and disruptive to the system of school… no longer just for the rich/elite to be able to ‘cheat’ with 1:1 tutors and access to all the reference materials, etc…
  • What will it mean in 10 years?   What about 10 months…
  • Already increasing productivity in business, which is leading to a decrease in ‘new hires’ (doing more with the same amount of expenditure)
  • What are the new ‘jobs’ going to be that we can’t yet envision?
  • What world are we preparing our students for – especially when we are distracted by the short-gain (long term loss) of banning students from these tools influencing the world around… them (at least when they are in the more and more artificial bubble we are calling ‘school’).
  • Good level of curiosity about the ethic and philosophies that will come from the Alternative Intelligences interpolating with biological neurologies!
  • Good level of worry about the environmental impact with water needed for cooling and electricity being drained keeping the ‘supply and demand’ to mean that households are not experiencing any relief in their electric bill
  • Fair level of concern about what could happen if we have the AI do the work instead of being part of the work…

It is kind of fun knowing that there aren’t really any good answers to how AI will influence and impact education – and learning – and doing – and collaborating – and thinking… after all, there is a lot of good about AI,

But there is also AI Slop like this:
