Day 105 (of 2025/26) #tEChursdAI consideration of some Vital AI Queries
Leading a session around AI this week. Got some questions that I don’t think we will be able to answer but I think are worth pondering collectively. Anything you’d add?
Who are WE now? (Individuals; society; communities; virtual and IRL and asynchronous?)
What is learning now? (Big Box vs Niche)
What is authorship now? (Do we focus more on reading and allow the writing to be more supported?
What is thinking now? (Isolated or always with a collaborator?) how is AI reshaping cognition
What is education for now? (Is it about getting enough full time learners to pay the bills for ‘Big Education” to continue as it has?)
What is the role of schooling now? (What are we promising our graduates that they are ready for?)
How are ethics changing? (Plagiarism is just another word for Research)
Is AI the great social gap equalizer, or will inequalities keep deepening?
Dare we let AI in to do mundane tasks so we can learn and talk more about:
Politics as destabilizing forces? (Churchill said democracies ore the least bad choice of government)
Ecological limits being breached? (Yet the US government is declaring victory over policies that were designed to help save ecologies/environments that we need to survive…)
Erosion of social trust? (Can you really trust who you FaceTimed with was really who they said they were?)
Decline of biodiversity? (These are the things that drive the angst, the doomscrolling is a symptom that we focus on because it’s easier to deal with).
Who defines “success” in education? Ought we not be working with the learner so at an appropriate time, they are the ones to declare victory and move to what is best for them next?

Utopia or Dystopia – is it occam’s razor? Or merely a point of view? OPENAI ENGINEER ADMITS ‘EXISTENTIAL THREAT’…
I’m really enjoying thinking about the what was/is/will be of education right now!
