Day 119 (of 2025/26) AI – cons and pros… #tEChursdAI thanks @YongZhao

Really liked this share from Yong Zhao (big fan!) and how eerily closely he has aligned some thinking to that of Will Richardson in some sessions I have been attending… for me, a key takeaway is that there are some uncomfortable parts we ought to address in education. In general, schools are complicit in the problems many like to address on social medias… more specifically, the change in the world means that changes are going to happen. but worst of all: these changes are extremely difficult—often feeling almost impossible—because they collide with entrenched systems (standards, pacing, exams, college admissions, parent expectations, accountability structures, and the “grammar of schooling”).

My worry is the AI, much like portable, personal tech devices, is getting looked at and promoted in ways that continue to emphasize doing old things in new ways, rather than the ideal of ways that could not be done without the tech. People like to point out the negatives – enough so that I had to counter someone I like to read on LinkedIn, contrasting their -ves with some +ves:

As another growth area of AI, I love that I tried a brain distraction when I saw an interesting job and drafting up a cover letter for it… had my AI collaborator take a look at it and… well, I know many like to say AI partnerships are just cheerleaders without insight – well, my AI collaborator said “no”…. no no no… nice idea Landy, but that job and you are not going to happen.

Happy to share that my AI collaborator will likely be the best reference that I can provide for the foreseeable future both as an advocate AND a critic!
