Day 133 (of 2025/26) 3 News Stories you may have missed: Artemis; Grades failing students, and what is “extreme” – with a bonus: #dayofsilence

  1. Artemis going around the moon is fabulous (imo) as I believe there is a lot of side-benefits that humanity can gain through space exploration – finding resources and better exploring the skies without the atmosphere and orbiting crafts being in the way… here are some other things to think about education and Artemis: https://www.bbc.com/rd/articles/2026-04-artemis-moon-space-mission-interactive
  2. Grades failing students (noted in my dad’s journals from writings from the middle of the 20th century… not new – and why I prefer descriptive feedback on artifacts of learning… https://apple.news/AD5OvkWS1RbWMczK4-smcIw
  3. What is ‘extreme’? Florida is rolling out ‘pre-crime’ https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-life/life/faith/2026/04/06/desantis-signs-florida-law-to-label-groups-as-terrorists-and-expel-student-supporters which I thought was good as ‘extreme views’ on subjects like gender could be targeted and watched, because I read that as being able to target those restricting sexual identity… but sadly, because I read Orwell and (many) other dystopians, that it is going to be used to target ‘extremists’ as those seeking inclusion and individualism… crazy how vague language can be used to silence and persecute… used to be free speeches would agree with Voltaire’s statement “I may not agree with what you say, but will defend your right to say it” and now the shift is “what you say makes me uncomfortable, so you must be a terrorist”… quite the shift…

Also, April 10 is The Day of Silence – an annual student-led initiative, usually held in April, where participants take a vow of silence to protest the bullying, harassment, and silencing of LGBTQ+ students in schools

Typically: a vow of silence by students, teachers, and staff to refrain from speaking during school hours or for a specific duration to mirror the silence imposed on LGBTQ2IA+ peers, and a ‘breaking of the silence’ with a sharing of stories, speaking out against bullying, and sharing educational resources.

Thus my TikTok today is focused on… silence.. in recognition of the 2LGBTIQCAPGNGFNBA

2Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, Curious, Asexual, Pansexual, Gender-Nonconforming, Gender-Fluid, Non-Binary, and Androgynous

And for consideration…

I know some people react emotionally to the growing acronym, but I am mindful that people want to be seen and recognized ~ much better than masking and faking conformation… inclusion takes an effort…
