Day 16 (of 2026/27) On Truth and Reconciliation
Reconciliation makes people uncomfortable
We see it more and more
Especially on the social medias
(So at least those under 16 are safe from such views 🙄)
Whether it is findings of graves
Or changing of names
People got opinions
Most of which show deep hatred
Which only shows we have a ways to go
To unpack some truths
Free up histories
And work towards doing better
A day of remembrance…
A day of reflection…
A day of importance…
A day to consider what might be.

Take part of the day to take a look at some. Even just one…
In the US, the 12th of October is Indigenous Peoples Day
And a lot of work still needs to go on there as well..
Unpacking the “I***** War”
And why the term Tribes gets used
(Hint: co-mingling of families back in the day to avoid unity)
As the US used policies aimed at cultural assimilation and land dispossession.
While the federal government created the bureaucratic framework of modern tribes,
the cultures and identities themselves are ancient
and survived despite those efforts, rather than being a result of them.
This is why today, much as we do with Remembrance Day next week
We take the time for an assembly (asynchronous fits us best)
To contemplate and ponder
Not a day ‘off’ from learning, but a day for focused reflection
